It's Common Sense!

Operation Lifesaver has two new 30-second videos that show pedestrians and drivers how to use common sense around tracks and trains.

The public service announcements (PSAs), which use humor to convey a serious message about train safety to young adults and families, are appearing on television in key states for train-related deaths and injuries. The 30-second PSAs are the first animated spots for Operation Lifesaver, Inc.

About every two hours in the U.S. a person or a vehicle is struck by a train. Federal safety statistics show that in 2007, the latest year for which final data is available, 335 people were killed and 1,047 were injured in 2,752 highway-rail crossing collisions nationwide. An additional 469 pedestrians were killed and 399 injured while illegally trespassing on railroad tracks in 2007.
